Challenge
While awareness and fear of meningococcal disease was high in Australia, research showed that factual knowledge among Australian parents was low. In particular, many parents were not aware that there are different strains of meningococcal disease, and routine vaccination did not cover all strains.
Approach
SenateSHJ worked with Meningococcal Australia to support them through their formation and helping them change the conversation and become the ‘go to’ for media and Government for information and perspectives on the disease and radar. The activities included leveraging patient research, a partnership with world renowned photographer Anne Geddes, blogger engagement, content creation, government engagement and several waves of traditional and social media activities.
Outcome
Disease awareness rose from 89% to 100%, understanding that there are different strains of the disease from 52% to 64% and knowledge on how to protect against all strains from 17% to 35%.
