News was once defined as “what someone, somewhere wants to supress. All else is advertising.”
And guess what? There has always been - and still is - a great deal that someone, somewhere wants to supress.
Although this bad news can be relentless, I am grateful that our news feeds shine a light on the corrupt, the inhumane and the disastrous. Maybe not so much for the advertising masquerading as news.
I am even more grateful for the news that falls into another category - good news. It can be found at https://fixthenews.com/.
Among many other pieces of good news, Fix The News covers a World Health Organisation report which shows that, between 2014 and 2023, the Southeast Asia region eliminated neonatal tetanus, saw the highest reduction in maternal mortality in the world and the fastest decline in tobacco use. Furthermore, the population of the endangered Bengal Tiger has tripled, thanks to an ecosystem restoration project in Nepal.
This is genuine good news. It matters and it can help shift our mindset.
